About Us

Initiative for Kosova Community (IKC) was established in 2005 as a Kosovan NGO. It was initiated as a spin-off organization of the Belgian non-governmental organization Balkanactie vzw by its local staff. Since 2005 IKC cooperated with Balkanactie vzw on the implementation of its Community Building Program and developed as an independent organization.

IKC wants to contribute to a just and equitable development of Kosovo by working on the empowerment of the civic society and people in general. This is done by working on capacity building and income generating activities with other local organizations, communities and local authorities. Particular attention is given to the weakest. In our activities a particular attention is given to rural communities. They are often forgotten and as such remain the least empowered part of society.

We concentrate very much on organizing people and strengthening their capacities in order for them to be able to take their destiny into their own hands. We want to teach them how to fish rather then giving them fish.

It is, however, also very important for there to be fish in the pond. Therefore, we also foresee to develop income generating activities.

Vision of IKC: IKC, the engine for community development in Kosovo.

Mission of IKC: IKC seeks to achieve a developed rural society and to increase the welfare of its population by strengthening the capacities of civic society, of the local communities and governments. We seek to promote better representation of the rural community. We thus want to achieve a just and equitable development through the development and empowerment of the society midfield.
